I was tagged by the lovely Lois at Lois Reads books and you can see her post here. I love a good tag post and it’s been a while since I have done any so I am glad to have a new one!
A popular book or series you didn’t like:
The first to come to mind is Shadow and Bone as I found the first book kind of meh. Then I tried to read Siege and Storm and I could not get into it for the life of me! I know how everyone loves the Grishaverse so I do want to give them another go sometime, but for now, I’ll pass.
A popular book or series everyone hated but you loved:
Please don’t crucify me but After. I fully recognise the series does not model a healthy relationship but it was just fun okay! I still am yet to finish the series as the 3rd book is just so long, but I think it will be one of my first summer reads this year. It needs to come off the TBR now.
A love triangle where the main character ended up with the person you didn’t want them to end up with. Or an OTP that you didn’t like:
I have to go with the classic Twilight answer. Sorry but #TeamJacob. Edward was cold, serious and boring and I just didn’t think he was even that attractive!!
A popular book genre that you hardly reach for:
Easily Fantasy! Everyone and their mother seems to love it and I just get sucked into the hype and then try reading a fantasy book and nine times out of ten I do not enjoy it and it was a mistake. There are exceptions to the rule, like ACOTAR, but as a general rule, I can’t wrap my head around it.
A popular or beloved character you didn’t like:
Can I say Harry Potter without people jumping down my throat?? He’s just a little bit of a childish brat right??
A popular author that you can’t seem to get into:
John Green! I’ve read a fair few of his books but they always fall flat. I associate his books with manic pixie dream girls and scenarios that just would never happen. I just can’t suspend my disbelief and get into his barrage of metaphors!
A popular book trope that you’re tired of seeing:
Sorry to be unoriginal, but insta-love. I don’t want a super slow burn, but I just need some build up to believe in a relationship! Also super tired of seeing authors write female love interests as being super cool and quirky because they wear baggy men’s clothes and aren’t super feminine.
A popular series that you have no interest in reading:
There are very few because like I mentioned earlier I just get sucked into the hype! However, I suppose I’d have to say maybe Daughter of Smoke and Bone? As much as I want to love Lani Taylor, it does not sound like the kind of fantasy I could wrap my head around!
The saying goes “the book is always better than the movie”, but what movie or TV adaptation do you prefer more than the book:
Maybe Simon vs. the Homosapians Agenda because I just found the book to be a very average contemporary. I am all hear for the representation, but nothing made the book stand out to me and I was more here for a middle of the road contemporary film as it takes up less of time.
